Remember to do some prep work before you start painting

When you are getting ready to start painting there’s some work that you need to do before you start painting. If you have wallpaper on the wall then you need to remove it before you start. You’ll also want to dust any moldings and ledges, fill nail holes, and spackle or patch anything that needs to be touched up on the walls. You don’t want dust flying around while you paint. Part of the preparation is getting the furniture out of the room. You don’t want to stop in the middle of the paint job and move furniture around.

When you first get the paint remember to check it before you leave the store because there are times that you get the paint home and find out that it wasn’t mixed correctly.

The easiest way to start painting is to paint all of the edges and corners first and then apply a thin layer of paint on the rest of the wall. Most of the pros will recommend 2-3 thin coats of paint on the wall. This way it will dry quickly and correctly and cover the right way.

When you are finished painting the room, you’ll want to mark on the paint can what rooms you painted with it so that you can use it for doing touch-ups later and this way you’ll know what color you used if you need to purchase more.
