I am thinking about painting a room in my house and don’t know how to begin.

Ok, the first thing you need to do is figure out what color scheme you are going for and the best way to do this is to find an inspiration. Have you looked through a magazine and found a picture that you like? Maybe the color of the room or the way the colors in the room compliment each other? Maybe you have a rug or a pillow that you like and you can find colors off of them. Other things you need to consider are the rest of your furniture in that room. Do you want things that compliment your furniture or are you planning on getting new furniture?

Don’t jump into painting like it has to be started and finished this weekend. Go to the paint store and get some swatches and put them somewhere that you see everyday and see which one you lean towards. Once you narrow down your choices, get small containers of the paints and test them on a wall behind the couch or entertainment center. Colors changes with different lighting so make sure that you see these colors in daylight and evening.

Also keep in mind the way your room gets used and what you want it to say. If you have a big room such as a dining room or a living room then you might want to go with a warmer color because it makes you feel warm and cozy. For a home office or bedroom you might want to use cool colors because they are so calming.
