How to Pick a Pillow Part 2
So we’ve talked about the sizes of pillows so now let’s talk about the fillings.
Natural fill is down and feather pillow and they give you soft to medium support. Higher fill power will give you firmer support. If you suffer from allergies then it’s best for you to get a down pillow.
Synthetic fills give good neck support and different levels of firmness. You can fluff it by placing it in your dryer on the air fluff setting with a pair of clean sneakers or a couple of tennis balls. This helps revive the loft in it. If you wash your pillow make sure that you dry it completely because dampness will cause mold to form.
Foam pillows offer firmness and support.
Want to know when it’s time to buy a new pillow?
For down pillows fold the pillow in half and squeeze all the air out and release the pillow. If it stays folded and doesn’t return to it’s original shape, it’s time to purchase a new down pillow. Down pillows can be revived by a simple fluff and shake.
For polyester fill pillows fold the pillow in half. Place a tennis shoe on the folded pillow. If the pillow does not throw the shoe and unfold itself to it’s original shape, it’s time to purchase a new pillow.
