How to Pick a Pillow Part 1
Pillows are another hard thing to buy because they have so many different types out there. You have different fillings such as down and polyester. There’s also different firmness for your pillow like soft, medium, and firm. Last you have different sizes such as standard, jumbo, queen, king, and body pillows. I’ll try to explain these differences for you so you’ll know what to buy when you get your next pillow.
Let’s start with the different sizes.
- Standard is 20 x 26 inches
- Jumbo is 20 x 28 inches
- Queen is 20 x 30 inches
- King is 20 x 36 inches
- European is 26 x 26 inches
- Travel Pillow is 12 x 16 inches
- Body Pillow is 20 x 54 inches
Pillow covers, or pillow protectors, are placed on the pillow and the pillow case goes over top of them. They are usually zippered and they protect your pillow from stains, dust and moisture.
Pillow Cases are sold mostly in pairs and have their opening on the side. These are used on top of the pillow covers or protectors and are used on pillows that you will sleep on. In most instances, standard pillowcases are roomy enough to accommodate Queen or Jumbo pillows.
Pillow Shams are typically for decoration on your bed. Pillow shams are stitched on all four sides and have an opening in the back rather than on the side like pillow cases. Shams give your bed a more finished look. You can have multiple pillows on your bed to create any kind of look or to mix any colors.
We will talk about the fillings and firmness in the next blogs.
